What is the solution proposed by I-HEROS ? A One-Stop-Shop

To tackle home renovation challenges, I-HEROS proposes to establish an entirely integrated renovation service in Toulouse Métropole and to highlight the levers of action to accelerate energy renovation in order to share them with other actors, whether national or European.

Indeed, although each territory has its own characteristics, the approach needed to tackle this problem is similar. In order to leverage the number of renovations, the process must acknowledge not only the technical issues in need of fixing, but also the social, financial and legal aspects related to the renovation process.

I-HEROS One-Stop-Shop should allow to:

The one-stop-shop should help private individuals in their energy-efficient renovation works (individual houses and condominiums), whatever the targeted level of energy reduction and regardless of income level.

The service provided by I-HEROS includes: neutral advice and information, technical and social diagnosis, proposition of several renovation work scenarios, mobilisation of professional enterprises, attractive financial offer provisioning, follow-up of the work and its quality.

By improving the professional offer, providing an in-depth analysis of local needs, and communicating the existence of such services to homeowners, the I-HEROS project is expected to stimulate the demand on the territory.

The project works on using standardisation to reduce renovation cost and time, as well as integrate technical solutions to promote summer comfort in housing.

Build on the experience of similar emerging services in Europe, I-HEROS is expected to improve the economic model of the one-stop-shop structure and eventually allow it to operate without subsidies.

What are the expected impacts of I-HEROS?

The 2030 climate and energy framework includes EU-wide targets and policy objectives for the period from 2021 to 2030. They will enable the EU to move towards a climate-neutral economy and implement its commitments under the Paris Agreement by updating its Nationally Determined Contribution.

I-HEROS aims to accompany the renovation of 500 homes during the 2-year trial period from 2022-23. Following the successful introduction of the one-stop-shop, 2000 building renovations should be promoted every year.

56 GWh

of primary energy saved per year

It is expected that three years after the end of the project, 56 GWh/year of primary energy will be saved. Coupled with an incentive to install renewable energy (heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, connection to heating networks, etc.), it will increase the EU’s energy security by reducing dependence on imported energy.

of CO2-equivalent emissions avoided per year

I-HEROS is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14 700 t CO2-eq/year, thus contributing to reaching climate neutrality in the EU by 2050.

The whole service will support more than 1300 jobs for 70 M€ of investments in renovation expected, which will create jobs, advance green growth and make Europe more competitive!

You are a banking establishment, an actor of real estate transactions, a renovation professional ?

I-HEROS intends to increase cooperation between the actors of the renovation sector and thus to become a trustworthy third-party for territory inhabitants in the field of energy housing renovation, and therefore, lead to an increase in demand of homeowners that would otherwise be reluctant to engage in a renovation project.

You are a public authority, a policy maker?

I-HEROS develops a strategic approach to allow a massification of the number of energy renovations. An analysis and synthesis work was carried out in order to pre-target the homes to be renovated according to common criteria. Coupled with a proactive approach to the target public, this work should make it possible to focus on the most energy-intensive housing in the territory, to pay particular attention to the most easily accessible renovations and to reduce the time and cost of renovations through a standardised approach.
